What is a Scrapbook Design Album?
A Scrapbook Design Album is a compilation of your treasured photographs and memorabilia (tickets, post cards, greeting cards, etc.) assembled in a custom-designed “photo safe” album (see below) that seeks to capture the mood and enhance the presentation of your photos. Each page is unique… they are fun and they are nostalgic, they remind you of the ants that were crawling on the picnic basket, the chocolate frosting smeared on your kid’s face, and… and… and…
What’s a “photo safe” album?
Most people’s photos are stored in one of two ways… either in “magnetic” photo albums (the kind where the photos are attached to those sticky-lined pages) or just loose in envelopes and shoeboxes squashed into the back of your closet. Nothing could be worse. Best case, they get bent and crumpled in shoeboxes. Worst case, those magnetic albums will actually destroy your photos. Acid and lignin are in the pages of most old photo albums… lignin is the stuff that turns the newspaper brown when it sits in your driveway for a few days. It’s not melodramatic to say that acid and lignin are the enemy of your memories. Together, your photos will turn brown and the colors will leech. (I’ll wait right here while you take a look at some of your old photos…. See what I mean?)
“Archival quality” sounds great, but this isn’t the Library of Congress… do I really need to protect my photos to that extent?
The problem is that fading and color leeching occur in a very short period of time. After just a few years, your photos are likely to show noticeable signs of deterioration. Left unchecked, the photos continue to degrade as each year passes. But it’s never too late to halt the process.
If I’m not in your area, can you still create an album for me?
Even if you live in a different area, there’s no reason why I can’t create a meaningful album for you. We can communicate by phone, email or fax, plus I can scan sample pages for your approval during the process. Your completed album with any unused photos will be returned to you by US mail.
My photos are just a wreck… drawers, shoeboxes, some still in the envelopes they were in the day the film was developed. Can you make sense of all that mess?
Wow…this lets me talk about what I love most about scrapbooking for other people. The first thing you and I will do is get together and talk about your photos… who’s in there, how are they all connected to you, where did this all take place. It’s fascinating to become immersed in this kind of photo history. Then I begin the detective work… sorting and categorizing, with your help when needed, until the story begins to unfold. One of my favorite projects was an album chronicling a family’s trip to China to adopt a beautiful baby girl… what an honor to be a part of such a meaningful event. I’ve enjoyed making every album I’ve created and I look forward to each new one that comes along. Together, we can get your photos out of those shoeboxes and into a beautiful album that you’ll be proud to share with your friends and with your family.
What kinds of Albums can we make?
Well, it’s easier to say what kinds of albums you CANNOT make… None. There are no limits. Almost anything you can think of. Pictures make people smile. Scrapbook Album Designs make people smile more! A perfect gift for ANY occasion. Here are just a few ideas…
- Adoption
- Anniversaries (1st, 25th, 50th)
- Baby Showers
- Birthdays
- Business Promotion
- Graduation
- Heritage (historical family photos)
- Holidays
- Retirement
- Sports
- Tributes
- Vacations
- Weddings
What about the captions to the photos? Will you do that for me?
I can, but don’t forget that your handwriting is uniquely you. No matter how bad you think your chicken scratches are, it’s something that belongs to you and you alone. I always feel joy when I see the comments that were written into an old album of my grandmother’s. (I just wish the photos had been cared for properly… time, acid, and lignin have taken their toll.) If you prefer, I can print titles and captions in a variety of fonts or styles.
